A great cake recipe for any occasion:
Cream together shortening, sugar and vanilla sugar. Add eggs and brandy. Combine ground walnuts, flour and baking powder and fold in.
Spread the dough on a greased and floured baking tray. Bake in a heated oven at 200 °C / 170 °C / gas mark 3 for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Remove from the stove and cool.
Halve walnut halves. Melt instant coffee in three tablespoons of hot water. Stir confectioners’ sugar, coffee and water or brandy together to make a smooth glaze. Spread on cake.
Place walnut quarters on top. Dry the icing.
Cut cake into 3 cm long lozenges.

The dough is also suitable for a cake. Then bake half the dough in a cake springform pan (26 cm ø). Cut the finished dough once horizontally. Whip two 200 g cups of whipped cream, two teaspoons of instant coffee and two packets of vanilla sugar until stiff. Fill the cake with it. Decorate the surface of the cake with mocha icing and walnut halves as described above.
