For the wholemeal rye wafers, mix the rye meal, wheat flour, yeast, salt, grated onion, water, butter and eggs until a smooth dough is formed. (The dough must be thick). Let rise for about 30 minutes.

Preheat waffle iron, grease and pour dough into it with a ladle. Bake not too hot for about 5-7 minutes.
