For the almond stars, crumble the dough and butter with the flour. Add the remaining ingredients and quickly knead everything into a smooth dough.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 1/2 hour. Roll out the dough and cut out the cookies with a star shape. Preheat the oven to 180°.
Finely grate the marzipan and whip the egg whites, mix together with the water and the marzipan until smooth. Cut the cherries into small pieces.
Place the star cookies on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Cover each star with a small heap of the marzipan mixture and decorate with a piece of the cherries. Bake the almond stars for about 10 minutes.
